5 Tips to Consider When Choosing Children's Night Lights

Are you tired of waking up in the middle of the night to a crying child that is screaming because they think that the bogeyman is under their bed or they think that one of their stuffed animals has become a monster? Well the simple solution to solve this problem is to buy a night light. Not only will this help your little one sleep better but it will also provide you with enough light to go in and give them a goodnight kiss without having to turn on the light to wake them. Below I am going to give you some tips to help you choose the best night light for your child.

1. Consider the theme of your child's room

If your child has a jungle theme you may want to choose a night light that has something to do with the jungle or if your child has a sports theme then you want to pick a night light that focuses on one sport or uses several different sports. Another popular theme that is found in children's rooms are the plaids, stripes and/or polka dots themes, with these themes you want to plays up lots of color contrasts, such as pink/green, red/green, black/pink, blue/brown, etc.

2. Consider the gender of your child

Pink and purple are good color choices for girls and blue and green night lights are good color choices for boys. If you are pregnant and don't know the sex of the child, primary colors such as bright red, yellow, and blue make good unisex colors, also any shade of green from lime green, apple green to a soft sage green can be used. If a softer palette is preferred, night lights in a buttery yellow, mint green, peach and lavender could be used.

3. Find out if a light bulb comes already installed

If it does not I would recommend getting a fluorescent light bulb because not only does fluorescent light bulbs put out better quality light, it also last longer and in the long run you will save money on your electric bill because fluorescent light bulbs do not use as much energy as standard light bulbs.

4. Make sure there is an on/off switch

The reason you want an on/off switch is because in the morning you can easily just flip the switch to off instead of having to unplug the night light each time, not only will this be more convenient for you or your child but it will also prevent the chance of damage occurring from constantly unplugging it in and out of the light socket.

5. Take into consideration your child's opinion

Children can give you some great insight into what they do and do not like, not only will it be fun for your child to help you decorate, it will also give them a sense of importance in the family and it will allow for great bonding time that is priceless. When choosing a night light with your child you should explain to your child what a theme is and what colors go with that theme so that the entire decor in the room meshes well together.
